CAF Referee Instructor Jason Damoo has called on young Liberian referees to train to the “demand of the game” after he completed a two-week stay in Liberia while providing training for both Elite and Intermediate referees.
Damoo was speaking at the close of a five-day training for intermediate referees at the LFA HQ days after he’s completed the Elite Referee Course for 30 Liberia referees.
“It’s been a rewarding two weeks in Liberia following the training of both Elite and Intermediate referees.
“I want to encourage young referees to push more by knowing that travelling requires both passport and visa. So, referees must take care of their health and fitness by training according to the demand of the game.
“Your visa is your medical and your passport is your fitness. Without passport, you can’t travel and without passing a fitness test, you can’t move because they both work together,” said Damoo.
14 of 30 Intermediate referees passed the fitness test which he said wasn’t encouraging, but however, admitted that lots of improvements have been made from his previous visits.
Declaring the training officially closed, new Secretary General Emmett Crayton thanked instructor Jason Damoo for his valuable services while welcoming the young referees to their new roles taking into consideration “honesty and integrity”.
“I want to welcome you all to a new role as ambassadors of our game, but you should take into consideration honesty and integrity because they’re the bedrock of this profession,” Crayton stressed.
Making a brief remark, Judge Joseph Kollie, Chairman on Referee Committee thanked the LFA for its continuous support in building the capacity of referees, and also encouraged young referees to engage in self-training.
Meanwhile, Liberia Referee Association (LIFRA) president Lamine Kamara called on the young referees to improve on their fitness level and to also work as a team in discharging their responsibilities.
The president statement came from the the stats generated following the fitness test wish saw only 14 of 30 young referees passing the fitness test
