Acting Liberia Football Association (LFA) President Sekou Konneh has praised women’s involvement in combining football and education.
Prof. Konneh, who is also a vice president at the University of Liberia, said he is happy to see women and girls who play football opting for education at all levels.
He was speaking at the start of a CAF License ‘C’ coaching course exclusively for women at the LFA headquarters in the Swankamore community on 6 May.
“I am happy to see many of you taking advantage of education and playing football. The advantage you have now is that these courses weren’t available when some of you were playing football.
“So it is our prayer that you, who are here, will help us in curbing the indiscipline in football. We already have a big challenge of encouraging young girls to switch from kickball to football or play both.
“I am also happy that those, who are still playing, have chosen to be coaches. I wish all of you best of luck as you go thru the course. I now declare this course officially opened with the powers vested in me as acting LFA president,” said Konneh.
The course is being facilitated by CAF coaching instructors Robert Lartey (CAF License ‘A’) and Kebeh Lamine (CAF License ‘B’) with LFA coach educator Kesselee Kanneh serving as coordinator.
The participants will wear a black armband in memory of women’s under-17 equipment manager Vivian Sando, who was found dead on April 30.
